Please do not apply if you do not have a current contract of employment with the University.Internal Applicants Only - Digital Learning ManagerThe Cardiff Learning and Teaching Academy (LTA) is offering an exciting opportunity to join the Digital Education Team and lead the LTAs Learning Design Service.As part of the Digital Education senior team this position will take a leadership role for the Learning Design specialism and work with learning and teaching colleagues across a range of disciplines, delivering sustainable improvements to the student experience at Cardiff. You will contribute to the delivery of the learning and teaching and student experience related aspects of the University Strategy, “Our Future Together”.In addition, this role will lead and manage a team of Learning Designers, Digital Education Specialists and Learning Technologists delivering Digital Education and Learning Design support for one of the three Colleges of the University.This includes responsibility for:
Leadership of the Learning Design specialism within the Digital Education Team which supports and guides academic colleagues in design, redesign and development of blended and online modules, short courses and programmes. This work will be focused to support University and College strategic priorities and is aligned to development of new programmes and review and revalidation of existing programmes.This role will involve:
  • Working closely with colleagues within Digital Education and across the LTA, including the Education Development Team and Student Engagement Team, to lead the delivery of a Learning Design service, planning and coordinating the delivery of this service to meet strategic University priorities.
  • Working closely with the LTA's College Partners and key College leadership to understand and plan to support priority areas within each College. This may include strategically important programmes including in relation to Flexible Lifelong Learning and transnational education.
  • Have oversight for the Learning Design service offer to develop, in partnership with academic Schools, high quality, accessible and inclusive online resources in technology enhanced learning and learning design and meet the needs of academic staff and enhance the student experience.
  • Designing and implementing processes to gather feedback and evaluate the impact of the Learning Design service and wider Digital Education support working with colleagues across the LTA to align with existing evaluation and reporting processes.
  • Ensuring that support offered is aligned to institutional and/or College level strategic goals and priorities and meets the needs of the academic community, which encompasses students, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that services offered are underpinned by consideration of the principles of Universal Design for Learning, inclusive education and good practice.
  • Coordinating and overseeing the development the Learning Design service, understanding the requirements and timelines of programme development and adapting the service as necessary.
  • As a lead for the Learning Design specialism, bringing together a community of practice within the Digital Education Team, identifying and providing opportunities for skills and knowledge development and good practice sharing.
  • Taking accountability for delivery of the Learning Design and Digital Education Service within one College, leading the team and managing workflow and priority setting. . This will include managing resources effectively, monitoring progress to ensure that plans are delivered in a proactive and timely manner and evaluating outcomes and impact.
This post is an open-ended, full-time role (35 hours per week).Salary: £51,039 - £55,755 per annum (Grade 7). Appointments would usually be at the bottom of the grade.Important note:

  • Lead the Learning Design Service and provide professional advice and guidance on Learning Design and Digital Education processes and procedures to colleagues that will have institution wide impacts, advising on the impact and value of Learning Design to strategic developments and plans
  • Identify and act on team and LTA development needs within the area of Learning Design, adapting plans, resources and priorities where necessary to reflect changes in workload and College strategic support needs.
  • Manage and lead a College-focused team within Digital Education, ensuring strategic priorities and objectives are set, communicated and engaged with, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and performance and intervening as required.
  • Ensure the delivery of the Learning Design and Digital Education Services within own College focus, adapting approach according to changes in workload and customer requirements
  • Acting as a LTA School Partner for one or more Schools, taking a strategic leadership and liaison role linking Schools with LTA support and services.
  • Contribute to the long term strategic planning and management of the Digital Education Team within the LTA, ensuring that it is aligned to, and supports the delivery of University and College level Learning and Teaching priorities. Work with Digital Education Senior team to ensure there is consistency and equitable services delivered across the three Colleges.
  • Take responsibility for analysing and resolving issues independently within digital education and Learning Design where they fall within set role objectives, using judgement, creativity and wider sector knowledge to suggest the most appropriate course of action and ensuring complex and conceptual issues and solutions are understood by the audience.
  • Contribute to the development of Learning and Teaching Academy initiatives that have a University wide impact, including shaping and enhancing the Learning Design Service and managing own team's involvement in initiatives.
  • Manage performance, induction and development of your own team and contribute to development of the Digital Education Team as a whole.
  • Support and guide team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas
  • Collaborate with others in order to develop processes and procedures used within the Learning and Teaching Academy.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience * An effective leader with excellent management skills and the demonstrated ability to lead a specialist function within a large complex organisation.
