- To provide a Pharmaceutical QC laboratory service to all users of the service.
- To follow laboratory procedures in all areas of the department to ensure the quality, purity and efficacy of therapeutic and diagnostic Pharmaceuticals in accordance with GMP and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) regulatory compliance.
- To work in the chemistry lab and use a variety of analytical techniques, including HPLC and ICP, to test aseptically prepared medicines to ensure that they are safe, efficacious and of the appropriate quality.
- To work in the microbiology lab performing microbiological testing of aseptically prepared products.
- Perform environmental monitoring.
- Work in all sections (Chemistry and Microbiology) of the Pharmaceutical QC Laboratory.
- To be an integral member of the analytical team to undertake routine and developmental analytical work.
- Perform environmental monitoring for the production units across BCU as required.
- Perform a wide variety of routine and non-routine duties in relation to the chemical and microbiological testing of purchased and prepared medicines across BCUHB.
- Exercise a degree of autonomy and control in the performance of allocated duties.
- Use own initiative whilst working to time schedules and under pressure.
- B.Sc Science or equivalent
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Knowledge of broad range of analytical techniques.
- Knowledge of principles of GLP, laboratory H&S and COSHH.
- Familiarity with pharmacopoeial testing. Work in a laboratory operating to similar standards of GLP/UKAS.
- Use of computerised systems
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring techniques.
- Manual dexterity. A good understanding of safe handling of equipment, drugs, and hazardous chemicals.
- Computer/keyboard skills
- Good problem solving skills
- Good written skills
- Ability to process large numbers of samples consistently.
- Ability to identify improvements in work practice.
- Ability to speak Welsh
- B.Sc Science or equivalent
