At ORE Catapult, we are the UK’s leading Technology, Innovation and Research Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy. Our mission is to accelerate the UK’s transition to a net-zero economy by driving innovation in offshore wind, wave, and tidal technologies. This role will provide technical leadership, consultancy, and specialist support to High Voltage (HV) laboratory activities, ensuring the effective delivery of HV laboratory testing and specialist services.We are seeking a High Voltage Test Engineer to join our specialist team, delivering end-to-end testing and consultancy services for customers and collaborators. In this role, you’ll support the planning, design, and execution of complex HV test projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards while driving innovation and continuous improvement. From hands-on setup and dismantling of tests to producing detailed reports and capturing lessons learned, you will play a key role in maintaining our high standards of technical excellence. You'll provide expert guidance on test methods, equipment selection, and process improvements, while collaborating closely with colleagues and clients to meet current and future demand.What will I do?
Specialist test assessment, planning and delivery.
Provide HV consultancy services to internal and external customers.
High Voltage test design in accordance with relevant standards, including equipment selection.
Production of and adherence to test programmes in collaboration with customers.
Hands-on when setting up and dismantling tests.
Maintain accurate test records and find ways to improve.
Prepare test reports.
Capture lessons learned throughout test delivery.
Closure of lessons learned actions post test delivery.
Support and lead some activities to achieve and maintain relevant lab accreditations.
Identify CAPEX improvements.
Witness testing in partner/customer laboratories.
What are we looking for?
Qualified to BSc/HND level in Electrical Engineering or have gained suitable relevant experience.
Sound knowledge/experience of HV laboratories and associated test techniques and equipment.
Knowledge of UKAS accredited testing.
Experience in project management/delivery – leading complex projects through assessment, design, equipment selection, setup, execution, and documentation.
Strong decision-making ability.
Excellent communication skills.
Proactive team player, happy to collaborate and play a key role in improving others.
Cable/switchgear/transformer/bushing related experience an advantage
