The Civil Works Programme is responsible for delivering:Enabling and Earthworks: Including sea defences, access roads, site establishment, diaphragm walls, excavation, and dewatering.Tunnelling and Marine Works: Construction of the jetty, beach landing facility, shafts, and cooling water tunnels.Main Civil Engineering: Foundation base slab, cooling system pipework, technical galleries, and over 70 buildings within the nuclear power station footprint.Working closely with supply chain teams, Responsible Designers (RDs), quality specialists, and contractors, our Project Managers will focus on finalising engineering, securing the supply chain, and de-risking the Final Investment Decision (FID).Key Responsibilities
Take a programme-wide view of nuclear Systems, Structures, and Components (SSCs), maximising replication from prior projects.Drive engineering and procurement delivery for contracts up to £50m in value.Prepare post-FID contract documents including technical specifications and commercial appendices.Lead implementation of site-specific design changes, enabling robust procurement and construction strategies.Oversee internal and external interface management across contracts and programmes.Engage early with stakeholders and suppliers to mitigate risks (e.g. obsolescence, design changes).Coordinate engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and commissioning activities to align with programme schedules.Ensure integration with Site Operations and the Mechanical, Electrical and Heating (MEH) Alliance.Promote knowledge capture and continuous improvement as standard practice.Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Degree and Chartered status in Project Management, Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles and hands-on experience in construction activities.Proficiency in English (CEFR Level B2 or above if English is not your first language), including technical terminology.Track record managing large, complex infrastructure projects through full lifecycle—from concept through to handover—while upholding safety, environmental and security standards.Success coordinating multi-disciplinary design and procurement activities to meet programme milestones.Background in civil, mechanical, electrical, process, or systems engineering for large industrial facilities.Desirable:
Experience within the nuclear sector.Chartered Engineer status.Formal project management qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, PMP).Direct involvement in procuring equipment or installation contracts for large infrastructure projects.Understanding of major project interfaces and delivery complexities.Experience in pre-tender and tender stages of contract procurement (design, manufacturing, or installation).Skilled in stakeholder management, both client- and contractor-facing.Ability to manage consultants, engineers, and advisors across complex programmes.Demonstrated success in areas such as:Engineering design, contract execution strategies, and EPCM project delivery.Procurement and oversight of complex industrial contracts.Risk, schedule, change, and cost control—including Earned Value Management.C
