For more information, see .Our Communications, Regulatory & Competition team has many collective years of experience advising telecommunications, media and technology companies globally on a broad range of strategic regulatory and commercial matters. With the continued growth of our practice, we are now recruiting an Associate to join our team.The role offers the chance to work with some of the biggest names in telecoms, technology, and digital infrastructure as well as entrepreneurial, high-growth businesses, supporting their commercial strategies and regulatory engagements. Successful candidates will assume a high level of responsibility, build solid client relationships, and play a pivotal role in driving the success of our practice, alongside partners Gordon Moir and Marcus Bagnall.About the roleYou will primarily support Partner Gordon Moir, who leads our Communications, Regulatory & Competition Practice. This role involves advising on a range of communications regulatory and commercial issues affecting operators within the communications sector, including market reviews, global product launches and market entry, and strategic advisory matters for leading companies in the communications sector. You will also have the chance to work with Marcus Bagnall on commercial arrangements where regulatory considerations are pivotal.Our team advises clients across the following areas:
  • Providing in-depth advice on telecoms-specific regulations (UK and EU frameworks), net neutrality, licencing, numbering, network security, and compliance with industry-specific obligations.
  • Advising on competition law matters, including market reviews, abuse of dominance, cartel investigations, and merger control where relevant to telecoms and digital infrastructure deals.
  • Assisting with the analysis and strategy related to Ofcom consultations, SMP remedies, pricing disputes, appeals of regulatory decisions, and related drafting of submissions.
  • Liaising with industry bodies and regulators (e.g. Ofcom, CMA, EU Commission) on behalf of clients, developing policy positions and advocating for favourable regulatory outcomes.
  • Advising on strategic communications sector commercial arrangements, such as network services, infrastructure access, build, capacity, integration, and outsourcing arrangements.
  • Advising on strategic digital regulatory areas at the forefront of digital regulation evolution, including in AI, blockchain and other digital regulation.
  • Working alongside Wiggin's broader commercial, technology, and corporate lawyers on transactions and initiatives with a regulatory or competition dimension.
About you
  • Ideally 3+ post-qualification experience advising on communications sector matters regulatory and commercial, gained in a law firm, regulator, or in-house environment.
  • Solid understanding of UK and/or EU communications regulatory frameworks, with demonstrable experience advising on communications sector matters.
  • Practical experience advising on communications sector matters in the UK, EU and beyond, including understanding of network operations, service provision models, supply arrangements, and industry trends.
  • Experience translating regulatory compliance into actionable advice in commercial arrangements by communications sector operators, including responsibility for contract negotiations and providing senior stakeholder advice.
  • Practical experience in competition law advisory is desirable (but not strictly essential if communications regulatory knowledge is robust).
  • Familiarity with contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters, including appeals before the CAT or other relevant courts/tribunals, is desirable but not strictly essential.
  • Comfortable handling detailed regulatory, economic, and policy-driven arguments; excellent drafting and communication skills; excellent project management and delegation skills.
  • Familiarity and experience in providing multi-jurisdictional advisory deliverables is desirable, including in obtaining and aligning inputs from multiple countries.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong client relationships and a passion for developing new business in the communications space.
