Job Summary:We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Mohs Surgery Laboratory Technician to support our dermatology team in delivering high-quality care during Mohs micrographic surgery. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, processing, and staining of tissue specimens to assist the Mohs surgeon in evaluating surgical margins during skin cancer removal procedures.Key Responsibilities:
Maintain clear documentation and ensure traceability of specimens
Communicate effectively with the Mohs surgeon to ensure optimal sectioning and orientation
Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of laboratory equipment, particularly the cryostat
Follow infection control protocols and clinical governance standards
Assist with ordering and stock control of laboratory supplies
Ensure safe handling and disposal of chemicals and biological materials
Participate in training, audits, and quality control processes
Support the wider surgical team when needed
Requirements:Essential:
Experience in Mohs surgery laboratory work
Previous laboratory experience, ideally in a histology or surgical setting
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to remain calm under pressure in a surgical environment
Understanding of clinical hygiene, health & safety, and data protection
Desirable:
Qualification in biomedical science or histology (e.g. IBMS diploma or equivalent)
Familiarity with dermatological procedures and skin cancer pathology
Knowledge of COSHH and HTA guidelines
