We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to work for one of the UK's leading Engineering companies. This is an Outside IR35 contract, based in Manchester but with a Hybrid work policy.Key skills required for this roleElectrical design engineer power energyImportant10 years+ Electrical Design experienceJob descriptionOur client, a prominent player in the Energy sector, is on the lookout for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role, central to a pioneering Hydrogen project, demands extensive experience and expertise in electrical aspects of process plant engineering, alongside the ability to lead a major project within a multi-disciplinary team.Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing electrical discipline technical input for projects and/or proposals, including the preparation, checking, and/or approval of engineering documentation
  • Allocating work and ensuring delivery against project plans
  • Delivering high-quality electrical engineering tasks within schedule, budget, and to client satisfaction
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable national and international codes of practice, legislation, and company/client standards and procedures
  • Preparing equipment and material requisitions for HV and LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, VFDs, motors, power factor correction, trace-heating, lighting, and other electrical equipment
  • Preparing installation scopes of work
  • Reviewing suppliers' quotations and preparing technical bid assessments
Job Requirements:
  • Experience in HV (33kV and below) system design
  • Proficiency with HV protection systems, including protection schematics, grading studies, and protection settings schedules
  • Detailed design experience of plants with large electrical networks
  • Competence with earthing calculations and system design
  • Ability to conduct power system analysis, including fault level calculations and load flows
  • Experience specifying electrical equipment for use in hazardous areas
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electronic / Electrical / Control Engineering) - Apprenticeships may be considered
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional body, or evidence of being close to gaining these professional titles
