BBC World Service is expanding its reach to serve audiences in Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania and Moldova. BBC News brand is driven by impartiality, enriched by the world's largest network of correspondents and supported by our commitment to combatting misinformation. We will be offering Romanian-speaking audiences verified news and expert analysis of key events, shaping the present day in Romania, Moldova and the wider region. We will prioritise explanatory and analytical content to help audiences make sense of the current developments in Europe and the world, to join the dots in a noisy environment of unverified and uncontextualized news bites. This role will work closely with other journalists to select and adapt a curated offer for the Romanian-speaking market.YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Translate and adapt BBC News content (text and video) into Romanian, ensuring alignment with editorial guidelines and audience needs.
- Create compelling SEO headlines and summaries for both website and social media platforms.
- Edit and shorten content sensitively, guided by Senior Journalists or Editors to enhance engagement.
- Produce short video content, either translated or originally created, with subtitles or voiceover in Romanian.
- Curate content for social media, tailoring BBC News stories for Romanian-speaking audiences.
- Monitor regional events and suggest opportunities for content curation or original journalism.
- Uphold BBC standards, ensuring accuracy, impartiality, legal compliance, and contributing ideas for innovation and improvement.
- Journalism experience.
- Fluency or native proficiency in written and spoken Romanian.
- High proficiency in English.
- Video production: scripting and editing.
- Proven experience of writing compelling text articles and/or video scripts - you will be asked to provide examples of your work on your application form.
- Production of SEO headlines, for Romanian and Moldovan, as well as wider European regional audiences.
- Understanding of the Romanian and Moldovan media markets and current challenges to factual journalism in the country and the region.
- Proven experiences of producing impactful short and mid-form

LOCATION: UK OR other locations in Europe where the BBC has an entity (France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Serbia, Latvia) and has the right to work.
PROPOSED UK SALARY RANGE: £28,000 - £31,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
