An opportunity has arisen for a fully qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the mortuary team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as the Deputy Mortuary Manager.The post has been established to support the Mortuary Service Manager & work within the team of APT's & MEO's in the organisation of a safe, secure, effective & comprehensive mortuary, post mortem & Medical Examiner's office/service for the needs of the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust & the wider community.Applicants should hold the RSPH/RIPHH, Certificate & Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (or level 3 & level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology) & ideally have 5 years post Diploma/Level 4 mortuary experience, they should be registered with the Academy for Healthcare Sciences &/or possess Science Council Registration; they should be a member of the Association of Anatomical Pathology Technologists. They will be required to have a good understanding of medical terminology so they can work with the MEO's to provide an all-encompassing service for the bereaved.The successful candidate will be expected to show a high degree of professionalism, have a compassionate, empathetic and mature attitude and be vigilant of the strict confidentiality policy required for the post; they will be required to participate in an on-call rota for out of hours APT duties.Main duties of the jobAll mortuary staff play a part in the death certification process; the APT's are pivotal to this service by providing technical assistance, dissection skills and input to the post mortem examination service; they will also be undertaking external examinations of deceased as applicable to the Medical Examiner's Services, and where appropriate, work alongside the MEO's who will provide a specific conduit for bereaved families.
