
Embedded Systems Technician

- Evaluate Embedded Systems: Conduct tests on the product and its systems, in accordance with the test plan, and in line with existing procedures and standards.
- Test Planning: Liaise with engineers to develop comprehensive test plans that ensure that the software-based embedded system functions as expected, and that the tests can be carried out in line with the project plan.
- Technical Support for Other Teams: Provide support with fault finding, error checking, and reprogramming of sample ovens as necessary.
- Reporting and Recording: Provide accurate test and calibration records for tests performed, ensuring reports and raw data are stored correctly. Provide detailed reports and results of all testing and development work.
- Maintain Issue List and Bug Tracking: Ensure that all issues and bugs are tracked and participate in bug reviews and hardware/software reviews.
- Development of System Constants: Investigate whether the system constants (timings, levels, settings, etc.) are appropriate for the appliances, and conduct tests to optimise these constants.
- Working alongside other team members to deliver the product(s) into production: Liaise with teams/customers/suppliers, supporting in problem solving activities, countermeasure development, and participating in reviews with engineers to critique designs and proposals. Communicate progress of activities, issues, and improvement ideas/countermeasures to the project team, as well as presenting results as at project meetings when required.
- Equipment, parts, and samples maintenance: Ensure database of equipment, samples, and parts is maintained. Order of new parts as stock levels and projects dictate.
- Adhere to applicable regulations, Company policies, and quality systems e.g., 5s and H&S.
- Undertake research and self-study to support training and development and to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Gain understanding of all areas of R&D, PMUK, and Panasonic departments, roles, systems, and processes.
- A minimum of one of the following qualifications:
- 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English at Grade C or above.
- HNC / HND in an Engineering-related discipline.
- BTEC Engineering (or related subjects).
- ONC Engineering (or related subjects).
- NVQ Level 2 (Engineering-based discipline).
- Experience working within a testing environment.
- Knowledgeable in testing methodology.
- Hands-on experience of hardware and embedded systems debugging.
- Experience in test planning, reporting and evaluating products and components, and interpreting test results.
- Must be an effective team player with a flexible attitude and good communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Good knowledge of testing variables.
- Working knowledge of embedded systems test tools (scopes, digital multimeters, thermocouples, data loggers, bus analysis tools, hand tools, etc.)
- Analytical approach.
- Self-starting with good initiative and able to demonstrate a methodical approach to tasks, with a view to developing own ideas and solutions.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project, etc.).
- Knowledge of internal and external tests standards (desirable).
- Working towards compliance (desirable).
