- The assessment of care and health education needs;
- The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.
- Relevant ICU experience at Band 5 or Band 6 in Intensive Care
- Thorough and up-to-date intensive care knowledge of nursing theory.
- Demonstrate ability to manage a group of ICU patients independently
- Understanding of the basic principles of effective staff management.
- Demonstrates experience of taking charge and delegating duties within the speciality
- Demonstrate an insight into management issues e.g. sickness management, conflict resolution
- Understanding of the basic principles of effective budgetary management.

- Registered Nurse with active NMC registration
- Evidence of significant post registration study specifically related to Intensive Care
- Evidence of completion of Step1, 2 and 3 national competency framework for adult critical care nurses

- Demonstrates an insight into management issues
- ILS/ALS certification
- Paediatric critical care qualification and clinical experience or willingness to undertake relevant study.
- Roster management and applying the principles of safe staffing.
- Band 5 experience 2 years or more
- Significant experience within critical care setting.
