Our are looking for highly motivated and technically strong Structural or Bridge Engineers to be involved in the delivery of challenging bridge design and maintenance schemes. We have a great team environment, and we support and develop our engineers, so they are continuously developing their skills.Our recent projects include design of a new integral two span continuous steel composite deck bridge as part of a bypass route (£26M scheme), a £5.5M bridge replacement scheme in New Forest, a £25M refurbishment scheme of 4 major structures spanning over River Test and Network Rail tracks, several small bridges and footbridges deck strengthening and replacement (varying from 100k to £1M schemes). Future work will include among others, multi-million railway footbridge replacement and strengthening of a 27-span concrete bridge, as well as continuing small replacement/strengthening schemes. In addition, we provide technical support to external clients, developers, contractors, and other local authorities.The Role:Working in the Structures Design Teams, you will be responsible for project management and design of a wide variety of bridge replacement, strengthening and maintenance schemes, as well as the inspection and assessment of current bridges and other highway structures. Whilst taking a leading role of the scheme assigned, you will be working closely with a Senior member of the team to enable you to learn and expand your experience. You should have a good understanding of relevant design standards (Eurocodes), construction methods and contract procedures.What you'll do:
  • Produce feasibility studies leading to final design and implementation of schemes to current technical standards.
  • Undertake detailed designs, assessments and prepare contract documents for new structural work and maintenance projects to ensure continued safe functioning of highways structures.
  • Carry out inspections on all forms of highway structures with due regard to hazards, safety and risk. Identify, record, and evaluate maintenance needs following inspection.
  • Establish and agree sustainable solutions, under guidance of line manager, with interested stakeholders which satisfy engineering and environmental considerations.
  • Plan, programme and deliver projects to client requirements in accordance with current standards and regulations.
  • Liaise with county and local councillors, members of the public, other stakeholders to promote and implement smooth working of schemes.
  • Prepare preliminary estimates for proposed schemes with direction from the line manager or other senior engineers.
  • Monitor and review project costs to ensure completion within agreed budgets
  • Maintain and improve personal technical expertise in new methods and technology.
  • Train, develop and be responsible for work produced by Technicians.
  • Continual promotion of a good image of the County Council and Directorate embracing and promoting corporate initiatives.
