University of Bristol Students Health Service is a GP practice for University students and their dependents. We are looking to recruit a healthcare assistant (HCA) to work 2 days (14 hours) per week (Monday and Tuesday).We would encourage a visit to the practice to meet the team prior to application.Main duties of the jobAs an HCA you will support the work of the clinical staff and have responsibility for a range of clinical and administrative duties.This will include
  • Phlebotomy (taking blood)
  • Taking observations
  • Urinalysis
  • Acting as a chaperone for coil clinics
  • Ordering medical supplies

  • Recognised phlebotomy training
  • Experience of working within a healthcare setting, ideally as a phlebotomist or healthcare assistant
  • Ability to work on own initiative with a clear understanding of the scope and limitations of the role and when referral is appropriate
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of role and responsibilities
  • Awareness of the importance of attention to detail
Desirable
  • Experience of working within a Primary Care setting
  • Knowledge and experience of control of infection policies and procedures, including safe disposal of clinical waste
  • An understanding of the professional roles of other members of the practice team
  • Chaperone training
