Emtec Building Services, a nationwide contractor with a highly skilled in in-house workforce of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers are actively recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Manager to join our Glasgow office. You will report to the Regional Director and have a primary focus on the pre-construction design management for substantial contracts for our clients in Scotland.The RoleAs a vital member of the pre-construction team collaborating with project stakeholders your responsibilities will include:
  • Leadership of design teams
  • Ensuring technical compliance for successful project delivery.
  • Providing technical support during the bid-stage including the preparation of design information to assist costing, as well as risk/opportunity review.
  • Drafting consultant’s appointment documents in line with BSRIA BG6
  • Overseeing external design partners to produce the best value, technically robust and specification compliant MEP design.
  • Ensuring design compliance with CDM 2015 Regulations
  • Assisting with production of design programmes
  • Organising and Leading in-house and external design workshops
  • Collaborating with other design team members to ensure a cohesive design delivery.
  • Reviewing MEP consultant’s design information, including Raising RFI’s and TQ’s, and identifying risk and opportunity
  • Engaging with the CAD/BIM team for preparation of Stage 5 Construction drawings
  • Assisting with the development of sub-contractor CDP packages.
  • Providing technical assistance during the procurement stage
  • Conducting technical vetting of the project teams Technical Submissions
  • Assisting operations teams with technical issues during construction and post-handover
Requirements for Success
  • Previous experience in mechanical design for medium to large MEP building services projects, acquired from an MEP contractor or design consultancy.
  • A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering/Building Services
  • Ability to conduct due diligence of designs, prepare and develop early-stage designs and calculation support costs plans.
  • Managing, reviewing and influencing third party designers in project development.
  • Assisting and advising on technical details throughout the project and post contract troubleshooting.
  • Encouraging, supporting and assisting with internal training and professional developments of others.
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills,
  • Commercial acumen alongside organisational and project management skills
  • Understanding and ability to apply principles of risk and value management.
