
Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Effectiveness

- Develop and keep under regular review a clinical effectiveness strategy for the Trust which will inform clinical practice.
- Working in collaboration with colleagues in the Clinical Executive, Divisions and LDUs, review and support the development of effective Clinical Networks to promote excellence in clinical practice and outcomes for service users and carers.
- Identify, advise on and promote excellent psychiatric practice throughout the Trust and with its partner organisations.
- Nominate suitable staff to represent the medical group of AWP on relevant local, regional or national committees.
- To work collaboratively with the Medical Director and other Deputy Medical Director to create an enthusiastic and dynamic team.
- Working with partner organisations to influence pathway development of Community Mental Health Framework.
- To Chair the following governance groups:
- Clinical Audit and NICE Group
- Mortality Group
- To represent or deputise for the Chief Medical Officer as required and cross cover with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Medical Professional Standards.
- Support and develop a strong network of medical leaders throughout the organisation who will contribute actively to the work of the trust at all levels and in all services.
- Working collaboratively with service managers ensure the medical workforce is deployed to best effect within teams ensuring that all medical imperatives are met in support of clinical governance.
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register
- Approved clinician status & Section 12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Substantial clinical experience at Consultant level
- Significant Consultant experience in a leadership role
- Strong reputation as a clinician and clinical leader, with a track record of successful involvement in medical management and leadership of clinical services
- Track record of promoting excellence in clinical practice
- To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
- Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems and to deal with crisis situations.
- Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
- Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching.
- Understand principles of teaching.
- Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
- Experience of carrying out an audit project.
- Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
