
1 SEND Teaching Assistant

- Provide one-to-one support to an assigned student with challenging SEN, helping them access the curriculum and participate fully in school life
- Support behaviour management strategies and implement individual behaviour plans, ensuring clear boundaries are in place
- Help develop communication skills and use appropriate communication aids or systems
- Assist with mobility and physical needs where necessary
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to implement Individual Education Plans
- Support transitions between activities and environments
- Record observations and progress to inform planning and assessment
- Foster independence and life skills development
- Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs
- Understanding of different types of SEN including autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and communication difficulties
- Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour positively
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing needs
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting child welfare
- Willingness to undertake training in specialist areas such as manual handling, first aid, or specific SEN approaches
