We're looking for a Social Media Officer here at Blue Cross on a full-time, 6 month fixed term basis, ending in April 2026.More about the roleThe Social Media Officer is responsible for developing innovative social content and interacting with our community across social media platforms to build Blue Cross's reputation, drive engagement with our services and campaigns, and raise income for the charity.As the lead on social media moderation, the Social Media Officer plays a key role in building and nurturing the relationship between Blue Cross and our audience. Monitoring online conversations about Blue Cross and animal welfare, they will use their own knowledge and liaise with teams across the charity to positively engage with social media users and resolve any issues.They will work with the Senior Social Media Officer to develop engaging social content, execute plans across channels and produce social media reports that guide the development of future campaigns. They will use insights to inform and support the Digital Engagement Manager in implementing and optimising our social media strategy. They also offer training and guidance to colleagues managing social media accounts for our hospitals and rehoming centres to ensure we deliver an aligned, impactful approach to social media management.Our social media team may occasionally need to be available outside standard working hours for time-sensitive posting and acting as out of hours emergency contacts.This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and creative media professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to contribute to a cause that changes lives.Key Responsibilities
- Managing Blue Cross's social media accounts across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, TikTok and other emerging platforms (as required) with a focus on community management and moderation.
- Managing our third-party moderation agency to ensure they effectively and consistently represent Blue Cross and our positions.
- Maintaining a bank of responses and working with key contacts in Customer Care, Media, Public Affairs, and other teams to effectively respond to customers to build our reputation.
- Producing regular social media reports with insights and analysis on moderation and social trends to enable the organisation to better understand our online audience and optimise our approach.
- Creating content that brings to life our pet's stories and for rehoming appeals, liaising with local centres, internal teams and adopters.
- Working with the Senior Social Media Officer to brainstorm ideas, develop content, write scripts and schedule content on our channels including being reactive to topical issues.
- Experience in social media moderation and managing large social media communities.
- Experience using social media account management tools (e.g. Meta Business Manager, Sprout Social).
- Understanding of social media analytics and drawing meaningful insights from social listening platforms (e.g. Sprout Social).
- Experience in crisis management and collaborating with other teams to manage complex and potentially sensitive queries on social media.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a deep understanding of what works for our audiences on social channels.
- Experience of developing and implementing audience-focused content and content plans across channels.
- Strong multimedia skills including the use tools such as Canva.
- Substantial experience in digital communications - agency or in-house (preferably charity).
- Experience of communicating with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience working with online influencers and partners.
- Working knowledge of content management systems.
- Understanding of the wider digital marketing tools and techniques including paid advertising
- Understanding of web analytics.
