c£82k per annum dependent on skills and experience37 hours per weekPermanentLocation: Central Laboratories with expectation to travel to our depots across the regionWe’re looking for a strategic leader, with an appreciation of science, who has excellent operational leadership and regulatory compliance experience.Our Scientific Operations Manager will lead our end-to-end sampling, laboratory and logistics operations teams (around 200 people). This is a high-impact role within our Quality, Environment and Assurance business unit, reporting to the Head of Science.You will have accountability to lead our 24/7 operation to ensure the provision of all regulatory water and environmental compliance - sampling and analysis - and ensure that we have the highest levels of accuracy and quality. Your leadership style will be one that inspires innovation, teamwork and works with the team to develop their skills along with driving an environment of continuous improvement.Your commitment to our safety strategy “Safer Every Day” will be critical to provide an efficient and quality service to our customers. It will drive a culture of compliance and safe working practices.In this role, you will:
  • Lead the delivery of a 24/7 laboratory operation, ensuring regulatory and internal compliance
  • Oversee all sampling, scheduling, and analytical functions across a large, geographically dispersed team
  • Ensure impartiality in all regulatory activities and uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity
  • Driving a culture of safety through our “Safer Every Day” strategy and putting safety at the heart of what we do
  • Drive continuous improvement in service quality, cost efficiency, and technical excellence
  • Foster a culture of accountability, and professional development across your teams
We’re looking for someone with:
  • Experience in an operational environment and has experience of bringing large cross-functional teams together to achieve the same goal
  • Proven experience within a regulated laboratory environment
  • Excitement and interest to lead one of our critical scientific functions and work within our Scientific department
  • Solid leadership of large, diverse and technical teams; bringing inspiration and team development
  • Evidence of driving health, safety and wellbeing of teams forwards
  • Stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence at multiple levels
  • Effective logistical and operational planning capabilities
  • Calm and decisive under pressure
