OverviewFIRA International, part of the Element Group, has an opportunity for a Structural Testing Technician to join our growing team in Stevenage. FIRA International is the commercial service provider to the Furniture Industry Research Association. We specialise in providing a comprehensive range of independent testing, certification, consultancy and inspection services to the furniture industry. We exist to help customers to make certain that their materials, products, systems and operations are safe, quality, compliant and ultimately fit for purpose.Responsibilities
Ensure that test items are correctly handled, stored and conditioned
All test preparation (e.g. cutting, sizing, labelling and affixing) to be in accordance with standards and procedures
Enter and update all job status on testing system as required
Conduct all tests to recognised test standard, methodology, FIRA procedures, UKAS and general quality requirements
Correctly set up, monitor and measure each test, recording all relevant data
Ensure that test results are accurately recorded and collated
Produce draft and submit written reports in the correct format
Understand and apply relevant standards for each test and keep abreast of any developments in standards
Be prepared to assist in any test area and learn additional skills as directed
Assist in calibration and maintenance of equipment where necessary
Assist in accepting all testing deliveries, sign for and book in samples, mark up and ensure located correctly
Responsible for health and safety issues within own work area
Observe all health and safety regulations and ensure good housekeeping and PPE
Skills / Qualifications
Possesses the ability to perform lower to intermediate complex testing.
Ability to work alone the majority of the work day; only requiring assistance for clarification or confirmation of test procedures
Effectively manages time and practices accountability for the testing to be performed
Ability to take testing projects from start to finish, completing each step properly
Ability to hold team members and peer technicians accountable for the testing requirements
Advanced ability to read and understand customer specifications and perform the testing required in accordance with customer specifications
Ability to construct and maintain test fixtures and other laboratory equipment to ensure proper working order based on client needs
Ability to maintain and repair equipment
Ensures timely and accurate results with little supervision and technical input
