We're aiming to better understand our customers and their preferences, so now is an exciting time to join us!The RoleThe Retail Systems Software Engineer will work as part of the Retail Technology Team to develop, support and manage Pret's in-house bespoke software platforms with a focus on the back of house product set 'STARKIS'.Working alongside Pret's IT, operational, transformation and delivery teams as well as key service providers, this role will manage and develop the underlying technologies required to run and deliver our in-house platforms. You will provide support for the 'STARKIS' platform including, improving workflows, responding to support requests that require engineering modifications, monitoring system health and reliability while improving the functionality of the software.You will monitor and manage the systems data base, and API architecture for uptime. This is a hands-on technology role, pragmatically engaged in supporting, improving and managing the health of our 'STARKIS' product and related technologies within Pret.Reporting to the Senior Retail Technology Manager, the Retail Systems Software Engineer will be responsible for delivering a reliable platform for our software and assisting in the development, deployment and support of STARKIS across our business and franchise partners as required.This role will focus heavily on the day to day support and development of STARKIS but will also contribute to the development of new software products and outsourced SaaS and cloud based solutions as well.Responsibilities
  • Support the in-house back of house software developed within Pret with a focus on 'STARKIS'
  • Monitor and manage code and systems required to deliver 'STARKIS' and related technologies
  • Develop new features and functionality within STARKIS platform as required by business.
  • Supports Pret's Retail Technology and Programs functions in delivering change across a portfolio of programmes and projects as they relate to STARKIS and other back of house products
  • Develop strong relationships and collaborative ways of working at all levels across internal and external stakeholders, including franchise partners and suppliers.
  • Provides UAT and overall testing of new releases into STARKIS and other platforms
  • Supports and maintains SLA's for uptime within STARKIS
  • Provides troubleshooting and support for operational issue within STARKIS including training and mentoring on the product to operational and IT staff when required
  • Maintain up to date and accurate STARKIS architecture diagrams, system development source code and integrations documentation
Skills and experience
  • An expert product development professional, with proven experience, delivering innovative solutions in a similar multi-site business, ideally having exposure to franchise operating models.
  • Experience supporting older technologies including SQL and C# code
  • Strong experience of developing front end user interfaces within Powerbuilder and Powerbuilder Foundation Class Framework, 3rd party libraries and objects
  • An expert practitioner in software development and development operations (dev-ops)
  • Passionate about providing great service and exploring software development tooling
  • A sought out, innovative leader for their deep system knowledge, practical and creative problems solving
  • An expert practitioner in product development and business systems architecture
  • Experience in working cross departmentally and with external vendors to deliver change and support
  • An excellent communicator with good spoken and written English language skills.
  • Exposure to multiple software development methods including Agile
