Contrary to popular belief, the world of Pensions is not just inhabited by black letter law purists, bookworms and odd balls.I mean I'm not saying they don't exist just that it is no different to other areas of law. The reality is that roles can often be overlooked despite the fact that the area of law is, not just essential, but interesting. How so? Well, partly because the reality of being a pensions lawyer is that the work you do is multi-faceted and dynamic. In a sense it has to be. Pensions are a key part of people's lives and increasingly so in the context of work place pensions. It is a key political issue so as governments and policies change so too must Pensions lawyers, predict, adapt and change. So what then does a role in Pensions offer. Firstly, a niche. Not just a random one that is so specialised it will be superfluous in a years time but one that will stand the test of time and remain a centrepiece for large and small firms. Secondly (and I admit you have to like this side of things) a real technical element that demands a deep understanding or at least interest in political and legal matters. Our client is a national practice and blends its pension work into a vast array of transactional matters and so the work has great diversity and strategic thinking as part of it.The firm are looking for an ambitious junior lawyer - that could be at NQ level up to around 2 years PQE. This could be someone just qualified (not necessarily into pensions) or about to qualify in 2024. You may in turn never have done Pensions in your training contract but will likely have had exposure to areas such as regulatory, commercial contracts, employment, share schemes or tax - something that has sparked your desire to operate in a technical area.First and foremost you will need to have an appetite to work in Pensions. Ultimately you will be asked that question - this is a great long term move and will be a career for life but as such it will be viewed that way. I'm not saying you have to have a "I love Pensions" t-shirt but I guess you've not got to be averse to wearing one.If you are a junior lawyer or NQ considering their next move and even interested in simply discussing it to find out a bit more then send your CV or contact Paul Warburton for a confidential discussion.CompanyThink Legal Recruitment is a regional legal recruitment business recruiting at all levels of legal professionals throughout the North of England for private practice and in-house.What makes us different? We could highlight our integrity, our commitment to excellence and providing honest, reliable and informed advice.
