We have a great opportunity for a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our Environment & Safety Division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride. You will join our Occupational Hygiene Dust Laboratories which specialises in the testing and analysis of Occupational/Fugitive Dust.SOCOTEC provides a comprehensive range of environmental monitoring and consultancy services to help companies fulfil their legal obligations and to comply with environmental regulations. Our expert field teams provide national coverage and tailored services.This could be your opportunity to excel as a Laboratory Technician, as well as playing a vital role in helping our business succeed.It is key that you are able to work efficiently and independently, as well as working well as part of a wider team. While you may be performing the same array of tests day to day, the projects you undertake will change, creating variety in your day-to-day life.The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
  • Media and kit preparation for both fugitive and occupational dust requirements
  • Undertake a range of environmental and chemistry analytical activities including preparation of media, filtering of samples, pH, Conductivity and suspended solids recording temperatures and other activities supporting the quality control process.
  • Using Gas Chromatography to analyse a range of gas samples.
  • Carry out tasks as assigned by Lab Supervisor to ensure that the customer's samples are received, analysed, and reported in a timely and efficient manner in line with documented procedures.
  • Maintain good laboratory practice at all times, following methods, standard operating procedures, local rules and regulations, maintain equipment and safe working procedures
  • Be aware of and conform to the laboratory quality system, specifically UKAS (ISO17025) requirements
  • Project a professional, courteous image and support the business culture and codes of practice at all times
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
  • Good communication at all levels with good organisational skills
  • A motivation to learn team-based systems and take ownership of objectives
  • Experience of working in a high pressure, production driven environment
  • Client focus and a drive for quality
