The RoleAs a member of OQC’s Technical Operations team, the Level 6 Product Design Apprentice will have the opportunity to develop the skills needed to become a Design Engineer. We are partnering with Newbury college as part of our commitment to encouraging aspiring design engineers into our industry.The Product Design Apprentice will be involved in the full product design lifecycle; working with stakeholders to develop design briefs, creating designs and liaising with suppliers to ensure the supply of a quality end product. Projects could be anything from custom components of our Quantum computer hardware through to packaging solutions to allow for the safe transportation of parts for deployed devices.Upon completion of the Apprenticeship program there are a range of career path possibilities within OQC relating to both product design and project management.You will gain hands on experience of:
  • Working with stakeholders to create design briefs for projects
  • Creating / improving 3D models and assembly drawings for new and existing designs
  • Liaising with suppliers for manufacture of components
  • Quality checking components after manufacture
  • Updating bill of materials and design documentation
Skills to be learned on the job include:
  • Learn to use Solidworks for 3D design
  • Practical design skills
  • Quality checking processes
  • Time and project management
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Passion for creativity and design
  • Interest and willingness to learn
  • A minimum 5 GCSE's at grade 4(C) or above, including Mathematics, English and a Science, Technology or Engineering related subject, as well as A Levels at grade 4(C) or above in both a Mathematical based subject and a Science, Technology, Engineering or additional Mathematics related subject, or 90+ credits in an Engineering BTEC at level 3.
