Job Description:OverviewThe London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Principal Private Sector Housing Officer to carry out enforcement functions, including enabling the Council to meet its statutory obligations of environmental protection through inspection, enforcement, education, and advice, operating in a customer-facing front-line environment representing Harrow Council in often challenging circumstances, performing enforcement functions between 25% to 40% from an office base and between 60% to 75% from site-based visits to premises in Harrow Council while carrying appropriate equipment, working as part of an enforcement team in accordance with statutory requirements and in compliance with relevant Council policies and procedures, and representing the Council as a duly authorised Officer to educate and work in partnership with relevant internal and external organisations to enhance the safety and wellbeing of the public.
About YouThe successful candidate will have:
  • Environmental Health Degree or relevant level 6 qualification or direct evidence of relevant and substantial experience in two or more disciplines and managing a complex caseload.
  • 2 or more advanced level qualifications and maths and English at GCSE.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of the range of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Team as well as a excellent knowledge of the range of legislation enforced by the wider Public Protection Team. Be able to undertake those functions if required to move teams or assist other teams.
  • Full current driving licence
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a demanding and pressurised environment independently and as a team.
  • High standard of written and verbal presentation and communication skills
  • Competent in the use of standard computer systems
  • Inclusive team worker who can foster partnerships work Collaboratory across teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours as may be necessary including response to emergency situation.
