We are seeking an experienced Setter Operator to join our client, a precision engineering business. The successful Setter Operator will be responsible for setting and operating CNC and/or manual machinery to produce high-quality, tight-tolerance components in line with technical drawings and production schedules.Key Responsibilities:
  • Set and operate CNC (and/or manual) machines such as lathes, mills, or grinders in accordance with engineering specifications and job requirements.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, job routings, and work instructions.
  • Ensure first-off and in-process inspection is carried out to meet quality standards, using a range of measuring equipment (e.g. micrometres, verniers, gauges).
  • Adjust machine settings and tooling to ensure optimal performance, quality, and output.
  • Carry out routine maintenance checks on machines and tooling, reporting any issues to the maintenance team.
  • Minimise machine downtime by identifying and resolving basic faults or process issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of production and quality checks.
  • Work closely with the quality and engineering teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures and company policies.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Setter Operator in a precision engineering or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and machining practices.
  • Proficiency in setting and operating CNC machinery (e.g. Fanuc, Siemens, Mazak – depending on business setup).
  • Experience with a range of materials, including steels, alloys, and non-ferrous metals.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments and interpret technical data.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality components.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
