  • Would you like to make a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities?
  • Can you spare a little time just once every two months?
We support a delightful man in his 60s who would just love for someone to visit him on a regular basis. His interests include: Anything involving Tractors and Lorries. Listening to the radio and watching TV He also loves visitors! This gentleman is very friendly, and likes to chat. He does repeat himself and can feel insecure if he is asked a lot of questions so strong communication skills and patience will be essential in this role. If you are someone with experience of supporting people with autism this could be a good role for you.Visits will be in the home, and there is always support staff around if you have any questions. You will be introduced to each other by a member of Mencap volunteering team and staff who know him well. The Mencap Visiting Service was founded in 1963. It meant that the parents of a person with a learning disability could know that someone would look in on them when they were no longer around. In this volunteer role, you will not only be providing a valuable social visit to this man, but also honouring the wishes of his parents. When & where do I need to be available? Visits will be every 2 months and can be during the week or weekends. Visits will last around 0.5 - 1 hour. You would need to be:A person with strong communication skillsKindPatientEngagingUp for a challengePassionate about supporting people with a disabilityInterested? please don't hesitate to get in touch with Kalle Hogh at and we would be happy to answer any questions!Benefits

About MencapWe offer a lifelong befriending service for people with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of individual people with a learning disability. Our visitors visit six times a year to create a one-to-one connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, our visitor is the only person in someone's life who isn't paid to be there for them.
