There is a variety in tasks, from using electronic testing equipment to measuring critical electrical parameters, to working with mechanical systems that guide trains, this ensures that no two days are the same.You'll be part of a team responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of equipment, including:
  • Signalling control systems and mechanical signalling
  • Track circuits, axle counters, and point machines
  • Functional power supplies, transformers, rectifiers, and battery chargers
  • Telecoms infrastructure and cabling
  • Signals and safety-critical systems
A Technician post builds upon the Operative position, and a Team Leader position builds from a Technician position and adds more responsibility, including leadership of the team, technical expertise, and oversight of work quality.You will support in organising and motivating the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards. Undertake inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal work as allocated and where directed.You'll make sure everything is done efficiently and to the relevant standards and controls. You'll have experience of establishing the relevant safety arrangements for the tasks and make sure Network Rail staff and contractors alike follow safe systems of work. Proactively controlling and checking the quality of work and the competence of your people, you'll see to it that assets are fully compliant to the maintenance standards and all vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials are safe & fit for purpose.Essential Criteria
  • Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
  • Able to lead, motivate and direct a team.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of signalling inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
  • Conversant with standards, procedures and instructions.
  • Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need. It will be mandatory to hold an IRSE licence for Team Leader positions.
  • Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.Please note you but will be required to live in a 60 minute radius from either our Saltley, Sandwell & Dudley or Worcester delivery unit.Please also note this is a talent pool, and it will be reviewed when vacancies become available.How to apply (External)Salary:Technician:Standard Maintenance Contract: £43,997.00IMC13 (if eligible): £40,475.00 - £50,194.00 depending on roster (subject to non-pensionable pay)Team Leader:Standard Maintenance Contract: £54,698.00IMC13 (if eligible): £47,686.00 - £61,348.00 depending on roster (subject to non-pensionable pay)Closing date: 16/09/2025.
