- Engage with business stakeholders to identify upcoming commercial drivers that are likely to affect future performance.
- Understand and communicate key drivers of financial results to Heads of Lines of the assigned sub-segment and their direct reports.
- Support underwriting management in any financial queries.
- Represent Finance at Committee meetings on the assigned sub-segment where appropriate.
- Carry out fast and accurate analysis of, and commentary on, key business drivers and parameters that impact future profit and revenue growth.
- Ensure that monthly, quarterly and annually internal commentary for assigned sub-segments are produced and reviewed on a timely basis.
- Analytical review of annual budget and monthly, quarterly and annual financial results of the assigned sub-segments.
- Responsibility for all annual budget related activities for assigned sub-segment including
- Understanding strategic business plans
- Supporting the business during the planning period
- Review and challenge of various inputs from stakeholders and drafting of narratives or commentary.
- Provide input into the monthly forecasting process through engagement with business stakeholders, identification of upcoming issues and/or adjustments and understanding of historical trends.
- Review monthly IBNR numbers and liaise with internal and external actuaries on the booked reserves.
- Review and distribute reserving reports (including monthly loss triangles and loss development reports).
- Review monthly attritional and event loss movements and ensure loss ratios are in line with expectations.
- Review of CAT and attritional reserves.
- Support in the drafting of the IBNR Committee Memorandum.
- Mentor and develop direct reports.
- Support the Head of FP&A with key projects and deliverables.
- Approach all tasks with a continuous improvement mindset to ensure processes are as efficient and effective as possible, while delivering high quality output.
- At least 5 years of experience in general insurance in a major accounting firm or industry
- IT literate with advanced Excel skills and strong financial modelling abilities
- Developed analytical skills including compelling communication of financial information and key metrics/messages
- Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Methodical approach to problem solving and decision making
- Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and ‘end to end’ process thinking
- Ability to influence and lead others
- Focus on timely delivery of quality outputs
- Commitment to development of self and others
