We're working with a well-regarded and fast-growing consultancy specialising in transport and infrastructure planning for private sector developments.They're looking to appoint a Principal Transport Planner to lead and manage the delivery of transport planning support for planning applications across residential, commercial, and mixed-use schemes.This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong development planning experience to step into a leadership role with project responsibility, client exposure, and team development opportunities.The RoleAs a Principal Transport Planner, you'll be responsible for leading projects from inception to completion, managing client relationships, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring high-quality outputs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the preparation of Transport Assessments, Statements, and Travel Plans
- Overseeing site access feasibility reviews and development masterplan support
- Designing parking, servicing, and active travel strategies
- Managing technical modelling using tools such as TRICS, Junctions 9, and LINSIG
- Coordinating with planning consultants, architects, and design teams
- Preparing documentation for pre-apps, planning submissions, and appeals
- Presenting to clients, stakeholders, and local authorities as required
- Supporting the growth of the team through mentoring and business development
- 6+ years' experience in UK transport planning, with a focus on development planning
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality planning application support
- Strong understanding of the planning system and national/local transport policy
- Proficient in TRICS, Junctions 9 (ARCADY, PICADY), LINSIG, and AutoCAD
- Skilled in technical report writing and client communication
- Ability to manage multiple projects and support junior team members
- Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or related field
