Job Description :O&M Engineer – HV/LV SubstationsA specialist electrical contractor is looking to appoint an O&M Engineer to support ongoing operations and maintenance of substations across private networks and renewable energy sites. This is a permanent role offering varied site work, involvement in switching, testing, and fault response, with pay dependent on experience and qualifications.Key ResponsibilitiesCarry out inspections and maintenance on HV/LV substation equipment.Perform protection testing and cable jointing, including specialist terminations.Troubleshoot faults and carry out root cause analysis.Install and test switchgear, transformers, and earthing systems.Compile RAMS, job instructions, and work packages.Produce remedial work quotes based on inspection outcomes.Coordinate field teams, technicians, and subcontractors.Manage project-specific resources and site delivery.Liaise with clients and stakeholders to maintain expectations and objectives.Plan and execute HV switching operations up to 33kV.Issue permits and safety documents in line with company or client rules.Analyse test data and compile formal test reports.RequirementsHNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, ideally within Power Distribution.Experience working on private networks and/or renewable energy projects.Familiar with current Health & Safety legislation and site practices.GWO certification for onshore wind (preferred).Emergency First Aid & Manual Handling training.Full UK driving licence.Strong IT and reporting skills.Personal AttributesEffective team player with a proactive attitude.Strong communicator, capable of engaging clients and site teams.Detail-focused and safety-conscious with high workmanship standards.Able to interpret technical diagrams and solve complex issues independently.Organised, decisive, and able to manage site-based resources confidently.
