- Highly developed specialist knowledge across range of work procedures/practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience i.e. BSc Clinical Physiology and ARTP Part 1 and 2 or equivalent
- Knowledge of specialist and advanced procedures acquired through advanced courses or equivalent experience to Master's equivalent level.
- Documented evidence of good clinical practice.
- Member of relevant professional societies (e.g. ARTP/BTS/ERS/BSS)
- Recognised trainer/assessor qualifications
- Post registration qualifications in specialist areas
- Health and safety training
- Significant experience as registered physiologist working in respiratory physiology, with experience performing routine and advanced investigations of respiratory procedures
- Experience of service development
- Experience of team development, supervision, and training of junior staff
- Awareness of key national policies and their impact on practice.
- Experience of working with children and young people.
- Published abstract/articles.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to communicate unpleasant/sensitive and complex information to patients in a variety of settings where persuasive, motivational and reassurance skills are required for maximum cooperation.
- Able to provide test instructions to patients with varying levels of understanding and comprehension using empathy, tact, motivation and persuasive skills in order to obtain maximal patient effort and co-operation.
- To advise and liaise with patients regarding health promotion and long term care using medical knowledge and experience
- Evidence of use of supervisory skills.
- Selection of best technically accurate and reproducible results obtained following local and national guidelines.
- Analysis and interpretation of highly complex data to formulate complex factual reports requiring highly specialised expertise and knowledge.
- Provision of factual verbal reports for investigations to medical staff and recognition of any unexpected abnormal investigation results.
- Decisive approach to difficult decision making
- Planning and organisation of own work and that of junior staff, on an ongoing basis, including the arrangement of cover and staff redeployment often at short notice.
- Able to plan, prioritise and manage own work autonomously
- Ability to lead short and long term planning for provision of paediatric respiratory physiology.
- Experience of change management
- Competent to perform full range of highly specialist respiratory investigations as specified in the job description.
- Highly developed physical skills requiring high degree of accuracy, dexterity and co-ordination (e.g. complex eye-hand coordination, highly developed fine manipulation skills, fine visual skills).
