Job Description:Data Governance Manager - 95-115k - Commodities Trading - City of London (Hybrid Working)About UsWe are a London-based international commodities trading, investments, and risk management firm, regulated by the FCA. With ambitious growth plans in financial services, we are investing heavily in data as a key enabler of our future success. We are currently undertaking a five-year programme to transition from legacy systems to modern, cloud-based technologies.Our Microsoft-based technology stack (including Azure and Purview) underpins this transformation, and we are building a forward-thinking data governance capability that delivers value, ensures compliance, and supports innovation.The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Data Governance Manager to lead the build-out of our data governance framework. This is a new and highly visible role, reporting into the Head of Operational Resilience, DPO & DCO.Unlike traditional governance roles, this position is hands-on and delivery-focused. You will work closely with stakeholders across trading, risk, operations, and technology to embed pragmatic governance practices that support efficiency, compliance, and business growth-without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.Initially, there are no direct line management responsibilities, but as the function grows into a fully operational, cross-business BAU service, the role will expand. The ideal candidate must therefore be equally comfortable operating independently and contributing to a future leadership structure.Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a practical data governance framework aligned with FCA regulations and industry best practice.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to embed governance processes that deliver value and efficiency.
  • Support the migration of data from legacy platforms to our new cloud-based Microsoft stack, ensuring data quality, lineage, and accessibility.
  • Own and drive policies on data ownership, classification, retention, and access management.
  • Leverage Microsoft Purview and related tools to implement governance, cataloguing, and compliance controls.
  • Monitor compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements, addressing data risks proactively.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, data quality, and innovation across the organisation.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to projects, change initiatives, and regulatory reviews.
About You
  • 5+ years' experience in a Data Governance Manager (or equivalent) role, ideally within financial services or another FCA-regulated environment.
  • Proven track record in building and embedding data governance frameworks and controls.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft data technologies (Azure, Purview).
  • Strong knowledge of data management best practices, including data quality, metadata, and lineage.
  • Practical understanding of regulatory requirements impacting data in financial services.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior business and technology partners.
  • Pragmatic and innovative approach-able to balance compliance needs with business efficiency.
  • Comfortable working independently in a build-out phase, with appetite to grow into a leadership role as the function scales.
