Leading rail main contracting company seeks a Commercial Manager with experience of working in the rail industry, for a outside IR35 contract opportunity in Birmingham.Key skills required for this roleQuantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Rail Contracting experienceImportantQuantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Rail Contracting experienceJob descriptionLeading rail main contracting company seeks a Commercial Manager with experience of working in the rail industry, for a outside IR35 contract opportunity in Birmingham.Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, you will provide essential commercial support throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring successful delivery within time and budget constraints.Key Responsibilities:
  • Managing project work package change control, cost and budget management, and forecasting
  • Serving as the primary commercial interface for work package managers, and providing contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineers
  • Contributing to internal and external commercial reports as per the Commercial Delivery Strategy
  • Ensuring compliance with company standards in all processes and document controls
  • Maintaining auditable records in line with contractual requirements
  • Collaborating with finance, project management, engineering teams, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients
Job Requirements:
  • Experience in Quantity Surveying within a contractor-side project environment, ideally within rail, engineering, or construction industries
  • Degree-qualified and/or holding or working towards a professional qualification (e.g., RICS, ICES)
  • Proficiency in handling direct labour and subcontract costs, estimating changes and variations, and forecasting costs
  • Strong commercial acumen with good negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently under cost or time-critical conditions, managing expectations effectively
  • Confidence in dealing with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally
