Position: Teacher of Science / 2nd in ScienceLocation: Reading, BerkshireContract type: Permanent, full timePay: £30,000 – £46,525 + TLR (MPS / UPS + TLR)Salary is dependent on experience, training, and qualifications.Job start: Sept 2024The roleWe are proud to be working in partnership with a friendly and welcoming secondary school in the Reading area to recruit a Teacher of Science (2nd in department) for a permanent position. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and forward thinking as they will be joining a dedicated and supportive faculty.Candidates should be competent teaching all sciences to Key Stage 3 & 4. The successful candidate will benefit from regular CPD sessions, support from their line manager, and encouragement to develop their own ideas and projects within both their department and wider school.The purpose of the role, in addition to teaching science, is to support the Head of Department in providing effective leadership in management of the department and ensuring high levels of achievement for all students in science.Main duties of the role include:
  • To teach science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
  • To plan and deliver sequences of lessons that challenge learners and promote excellent progress
  • Help to ensure effective teaching and learning strategies are in place across the whole department in support of the school improvement plan (under the direction of the HOD)
  • To make accurate use of assessment data and to interpret results to inform future planning
  • Assist with the monitoring and evaluation of standards of teaching, student progress and classroom management across the department
  • Be an enthusiastic practitioner with a passion for self-development through regular CPD and feedback
  • Have a high expectation of pupil attainment whilst promoting their safety and wellbeing

Experience and qualifications required for this Teacher of Science / 2nd in Science position include:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience delivering Science across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Strong subject knowledge
  • The ability to nurture positive relationships with both learners and colleagues
  • Experience delivering INSET and/or coaching staff (desirable)
