Job descriptionProspero Teaching is looking for caring and committed Special School Support Assistants to join a specialist SEN school in Portsmouth this September 2025.This welcoming school supports primary-aged children with autism, speech and language needs, and wider communication challenges. As a support assistant, you’ll play a key role in helping pupils thrive-whether working one-on-one or in small groups-using tools like Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to build confidence and encourage learning.What You’ll Be Doing:Supporting children’s development through personalised learning activitiesEncouraging social skills, independence, and self-esteem in a nurturing environmentHelping create calm, structured routines to support emotional well-beingCollaborating with teachers to deliver creative, engaging lessonsMonitoring progress and contributing to assessmentsOffering additional support to ensure every child feels safe, valued, and understoodAssisting with personal care routines respectfully and sensitivelyPromoting safeguarding and confidentiality at all timesAbout You:We’d love to hear from you if you:Have experience supporting SEN pupils in a school setting (primary preferred)Are passionate about child welfare and proactive in safeguardingBring patience, positivity, and a warm sense of humour to your roleUnderstand SEN needs and communication tools like Makaton or PECSAre a collaborative team player with strong communication skillsHold solid literacy, numeracy, and IT skillsJob Details:Location: PortsmouthRole: Special School Support AssistantStart Date: September 2025Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 AM – 15:30 PM (part-time considered)Pay: From £13.96 per hourWhat We Offer:Access to accredited CPD courses including safeguarding and behaviour managementOngoing support from our in-house Training and Development TeamProspero Teaching is an education recruitment agency working in relation to this vacancy.
