Location – Hybrid, Remote Working & The Council House, Corporation Street, Derby, DE1 2FSJoin Derby City Council as our Deputy Data Protection Officer and play a pivotal role in safeguarding the personal data of our community. As a key member of our Information Governance team, you will ensure compliance with data protection laws, support the development of data protection policies, and provide expert advice across the organisation. If you are passionate about data privacy and have a keen eye for detail, we invite you to contribute to our mission of maintaining the highest standards of data protection.The successful applicant will act as a team leader for the Information Governance Team and deputise the Council’s Data Protection Officer. The Council’s Information Governance Team is responsible for advising employees and customers on a range of issues such as data protection, freedom of information (FOI) and environmental information.Daily tasks will include (but are not limited to):
- Overseeing FOI and data protection compliance
- People management
- Advising a range of stakeholders on complex information governance matters
- Reviewing information sharing agreements
- Reviewing information governance policies
- Interpreting legislation, standards and case law
The successful applicant will need the following:
- Experience of managing a team
- An extensive and in-depth knowledge of DPA, FOI & EIR legislation
- High level of literacy and numeracy skills for the development of policies, procedures, communications, training courses, report writing and self-assessment audits
- A flexible and a can-do approach
- Knowledge of and understanding of the workings of the Information Commissioner's Office in terms of its role, the sanctions it can apply etc.
- Experience of advising senior officers on information governance related issues
- Experience of reviewing and drafting information governance related policies
- Experience of managing and implementing projects working to deadlines
