Our libraries are at the heart of community life and provide a wide range of experiences and opportunities for all. Our staff are highly motivated and are committed to meeting the needs of our customers. As part of the Muirhouse Library team, the successful candidate will engage with communities in a brand new building which is currently under construction, providing a range of exciting opportunities for customers and staff alongside other community services including early years, North Edinburgh Arts and employability and skills support.Muirhouse is in the North West of the city and includes a number of distinct communities, all with their own unique history and character. Libraries are no longer just a transactional service where people come to exchange books:- they deliver on a number of key government agendas to support digital inclusion, reduce poverty and inequalities and help tackle social isolation. Libraries also play a key role in supporting educational attainment through initiatives such as, READ,WRITE,COUNT initiative Every Child a Library Member Bookbug Sessions (Songs and rhymes for 0-4 year).So, whether it be for babies and new parents, for children and young people, for teenagers seeking positive activities, digital and IT skills for all ages and stages, providing advice and signposting to our older residents visiting the library to catch up over a cup of tea. We offer something for everyone - including books! A major part of the role is delivering activities to a wide range people especially young people. This can include delivering Bookbug sessions, story times, books groups, crafts activities.Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability deliver activities and to work with people of all ages. While the post is based at Muirhouse library and the vast majority of working hours will be there, the role is seen as part of the Edinburgh city library service and as such, the successful candidate may be required to work in any of the 27 libraries across the city to support wider service requirements. Above all, a passion for reading, learning and working with people is vital. If you feel you can demonstrate these skills, please apply.This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check.
