Fordwater is a great special school supporting children age 2-19 years with a range of special educational and complex learning needs including PMLD, SLD, and ASC. The school has been on an exciting, successful journey of development and are looking to expand our enthusiastic, committed and experienced team at our Fordwater Kingsham site.Fordwater, Kingsham is an extension of the 14-19 department based on the grounds of Chichester High School. It provides education to a group of students who are preparing for their transition on from Fordwater. Across the whole 14-19 department the emphasis is on supporting young people to develop their interests and skills whilst also developing preparation into adulthood.Job PurposeThe Assistant Cook will be responsible to assist in providing healthy and freshly produced school meals at the Kingsham site. You will be responsible for the preparation, cooking, service clearing and cleaning of the kitchen environment within the required standards, ensuring hygiene and safety measures are maintained at all times.You will also support groups of students and staff who are using the kitchen to develop their life skills through cooking the daily meals.Job DetailsHours: Term Time only, 38 weeks + 5 Inset - 8.30am to 2pmSalary: WSCC Grade 4 - £13.26Contract Type: Permanent, Part time, Term time only.Closing date: Friday 12th September 2025 at noonInterviews: TBCLocation: Fordwater Kingsham Site, Chichester High School Campus, Kingsham Road, Chichester, PO19 8ALWhat You Need to SucceedKey Skills1. Ability to prepare and cook nutritious meals to a high standard.2. Great interpersonal and communication skills, in order to be able to interact with a range of stakeholders including pupils with special needs.3. Ability to maintain high standards following legislation and Government Standards.4. Flexible and positive approach to working to, and maintaining, high standards of service.Qualifications and/or experience· Level 2 Food Safety – Desirable (training for this would be provided)· Experience in catering, preparing, cooking fresh food from scratch - Desirable· Experience of working as part of a team.Key responsibilitiesResponsible for assisting in preparing, cooking, and serving hot meals. Support the catering service to include preparation, cooking, and cleaning to the required standards. Take into account any special dietary requirements or nutritional needs.Operate and keep tools and equipment, e.g. cookers, refrigerators etc. in a clean and serviceable condition, and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Where repairs are necessary inform the Assistant Headteacher.
