Our Power team supports a wide range of projects across transmission and distribution, and we pride ourselves on solving complex technical challenges with creativity and collaboration.Please note: Due to project requirements, candidates must have the right to work in the UK without current or future sponsorship needs.The RoleAs a Power Systems Protection Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing and developing protection systems that ensure safe, stable, and reliable power transmission. You’ll work on high-profile projects alongside some of the most respected engineers in the industry, contributing to everything from early-stage design to site commissioning.Here’s what your role could involve:Substation Protection Design
  • Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), protection schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings.
  • Design protection schemes for transformers, feeders, overhead lines, and busbars.
  • Apply National Grid (NGTS) and DNO standards across all design activities.
High Voltage System Integration
  • Work on 132kV and above - designing systems that manage real-time fault detection and isolation.
  • Deliver solutions that align with Grid Code compliance, system stability, and safety margins.
  • Lead protection coordination studies, fault analysis, and grading reports.
Digital Substation & SCADA Integration
  • Support implementation of IEC 61850, SCADA systems, and networked protection architecture.
  • Configure RTUs, interface with substation automation, and integrate with SCADA networks.
  • Contribute to the design of LVAC/LVDC auxiliary systems, UPS, and battery sizing.
Testing, Commissioning & Assurance
  • Liaise with commissioning teams during FAT, SAT, and on-site validation.
  • Ensure design deliverables meet project quality and compliance standards.
  • Provide technical input during hazard reviews and risk assessments.
