Wentworth James Group has engaged with a World leading Automotive OEM & an Electrified Powertrain R&D specialist based in Birmingham, West Midlands. Employment of 10,000 globally with exciting future plans opening up in new markets. We are seeking a Lead Power Electronics Design Engineer to head up a new project within SICON Silicon Carbide Inverters with Optimised Nano-modules on a permanent basis to join a fantastic team.Requirements:
Strong numeracy and literacy
A minimum of ten years experience is essential and preferably some of this will be in automotive
Good logical reasoning
Deep experience of Power Electronics Design ideally including Automotive Inverters with experience of “Design for Manufacture”
Knowledge of power electronic devices, including silicon based IGBTs and MOSFETs through to emerging SiC / GaN based technologies: gate driver, control architecture and measurement circuits, selection/characterisation of devices for inverter
Experience of developing hardware to meet IEC 61508 (or domain specific variant, e.g. ISO 26262)
Experience of relevant CAD/CAE tools for the design of Power Electronic products
Experience of working with teams of engineers designing and testing power electronics
Experience of RA/SSOW in an HV test environment
Evidence of achieving results through effective work against objectives
Good communication skillsDuties & Responsibilities
Lead the design of power electronics hardware for traction drive and power conversion systems
Capturing and analysing requirements from different stakeholders
Design power electronics systems: IGBT/SiC drives, power converter including transistor selection, gate drive design, power inverter design, measurements circuits, microprocessor selection and protection strategies
Support the development of electrical and electronics architecture for e-drive applications including HV harness and connectors schematics
Perform analysis/simulation of electrical and thermal performance
Design and build power electronics test and measurement equipment for internal development activity
Developing validation tests for electrical test bench, HiL and vehicle
Can develop concept, proving key technologies and demonstrating the system functionality
Provide expertise for investigations and problem-solving activities
Lead the hardware DFMEA and support functional safety analysis
Ensure compliance with relevant EMC/EMI standards
Managing the technical delivery of suppliers
