Senior BI Developer

- Gathering business requirements and writing technical specifications. As a Senior Developer you will be expected to work with colleagues of more seniority delivering high profile reporting.
- Improving, and amending existing reports, including being on a rota for user support queries.
- Work with business users to design and develop well-presented insightful reports with interactive, slice-and-dice and drill-through options, providing the business with actionable information.
- Initiating and maintaining a consistent theme and delivery method across the reporting suite.
- Maintain and develop new and existing data models using best practise, with a focus on optimisation to drive performance and efficiency improvements.
- Preparing and maintaining relevant documentation including report documentation and user guides.
- Implement RLS as well as administer user security and maintain the Cognos BI Portal/Power BI Workspaces
- Support and train end users including presenting at training sessions as required.
- Working with the BI Managers to help shape the strategy for improved reporting and enhanced data visibility whilst assisting in mentoring the BI Developers and peer reviewing colleague's work.
- Strong experience of report design and development with multiple BI tools, preferably including both Cognos and Power BI
- Hands on experience with Cognos 11/12, including Framework Manager, Reports, and Dashboards.
- Experience of semantic model and report development in Power BI including the use of dataflows
- Sound knowledge of M Query and DAX or other programming skills
- Ability to collaborate with infrastructure, data warehouse and business analyst resources, and clearly communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical team members.
- Good understanding of BI/Data Warehouse concepts, including star schemas.
- Experience of database querying including good T-SQL skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Experience in the full development lifecycle working across Development, Test and Production environments including the use of version control solutions.
