About the roleat is looking for a teacher of British Sign Language (BSL) to join our languages team. As Teaching Fellow in British Sign Language, you will join our small team of BSL teaching staff, who teach on the Imperial programme as well as on our The role involves teaching Level 1 BSL to undergraduate students from a scientific, technical, business or medical background.What you would be doingIn this role you will be delivering in-person teaching to undergraduate students, preparing classes and lesson plans, and contributing to the development of shared teaching materials. You will be responsible for monitoring students' progress and attendance, supporting and advising students, and consulting with administration as needed. You will assist colleagues with the design of coursework and assessment, including assessing and marking students in their summative assessments through the year, providing comprehensive and prompt feedback to students to help students thrive in their studies.What we are looking forWe are looking for an individual with a track record of teaching BSL at university level. You will need an awareness of current trends in BSL, learning and teaching, familiarity with the CEFR and with different levels of attainment in UK education.To be successful in this post, you will be able to work flexibly as part of a team in an open-minded and cooperative manner, with strong communication and organisational skills. You will also have highly effective communication skills in English and in BSL, and an ability to convey information in an engaging way.   • This is a part time post.
  • This is a variable hours open-ended contract based on 40 teaching hours over 20 weeks (two hours of teaching per week, plus associated preparation, administration and marking time).
  • Teaching is expected to take place on Monday afternoons during term one and term two between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. Depending on demand, there may also be scope for teaching on Tuesday afternoons (between 4:00pm and 6:00 pm).
  • This role requires the post-holder's attendance on campus.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will conduct a range of duties including on non-teaching days & in the university vacation period as needed.
  • The agreed hourly rate of pay for undergraduate language teaching per teaching hour is £79.12, not including holiday pay. Each 'teaching hour' includes an additional allocation for preparation of the course, administration & other necessary non-teaching duties & is equivalent to 2 hours 40minutes of work.
