Every day presents new challenges and opportunities, allowing you to grow your skills and leave a meaningful impact on patient care.What you will do:- Act as an autonomous practitioner providing occupational therapy assessment, treatment, and managing a caseload within an acute or specialty team, often without direct daily supervision.
- Perform specialist functional assessments of patients with diverse and complex physical and psychological conditions in acute hospital settings.
- Use remedial and compensatory approaches to treat occupational performance deficits employing recognised treatment methods within your scope of practice.
- Implement and facilitate individual and group clinical intervention programmes in collaboration with OT assistants and other professionals to support recovery and discharge planning.
- Assess patients' capacity for consent, ensuring valid informed consent is obtained within legal frameworks.
- Monitor, evaluate, and modify interventions to measure progress and ensure effectiveness.
- Manage and prioritise complex caseloads effectively, using time-management and caseload weighting tools.
- Conduct home and ward-based assessments, including equipment prescription and training on safe use (e.g., wheelchairs).Supervision and Training:- Supervise, train, and provide clinical supervision to Band 5 Occupational Therapists, therapy technicians, assistants, and students.
- Delegate appropriate tasks and treatment plans to therapy technicians and junior staff, ensuring competency prior to task delegation.
- Contribute to the induction, education, and appraisal of new and junior staff members.
- Act as a clinical supervisor to students of all levels and support their learning and development.Multidisciplinary Teamwork and Communication:- Liaise regularly with multidisciplinary team members, including medical, nursing, social services, and voluntary agencies, to provide integrated, comprehensive care.
