This role is ideal for individuals who are dedicated to supporting young learners in overcoming educational barriers and achieving emotional and academic growth.As a SEMH Primary TA, you will support primary-aged pupils with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties in both one-to-one and small group settings. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will play a key role in managing behaviour, promoting emotional well-being, and helping students engage with learning in a positive and structured environment.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised support to pupils with SEMH needs across the primary age range.
- Assist in implementing behaviour strategies and emotional regulation plans.
- Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment that promotes learning and emotional development.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
- Track progress and support the development of each child’s personal and academic goals.
- Actively contribute to planning interventions and reviewing pupil progress.
- A relevant qualification in education, psychology, counselling, or child development (e.g., CACHE Level 3, NVQ, degree in a related field).
- Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs in a school, alternative provision, or youth work setting.
- Strong understanding of the primary curriculum and how to adapt learning for children with SEMH challenges.
- Ability to implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- A strong understanding of attachment theory, trauma-informed practices and behaviour management strategies.
- Resilience, patience and a nurturing approach to supporting young learners.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and parents.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
