Job DescriptionJob Title: Manual Machinist / Turner - Milling MachinesLocation: ManchesterSalary: £18p/h + Overtime + 25 days holiday (plus bank hols)Hours: Monday-Thursday 08:00-16:30 Friday 08:00-15:45Contract Type: Permanent, Full-TimeThe OpportunityOur client, a leading name in mechanical engineering and rotating machinery, is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist / Turner to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone confident working with manual milling and turning machinery, producing high-quality components to tight tolerances.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate manual lathes and milling machines to machine components to specificationRead and interpret engineering drawings and technical diagramsUse precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges) to ensure accuracyCarry out component inspections and ensure work is to specSet up machinery, including tooling changes and material loadingMaintain a clean and safe working environment in line with health and safety guidelinesCollaborate with the wider team to meet production schedules and solve machining challengesWhat We're Looking ForProven experience as a manual machinist or turnerStrong experience using milling machines and/or lathes (manual, not CNC)Ability to work to tight tolerances and quality standardsGood knowledge of machine shop safety and best practicesComfortable reading and interpreting technical drawingsSelf-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a teamDesirable (but not essential)Apprenticeship, formal engineering qualification or at least 5 years' experience in a similar roleExperience in a similar role within a COMAH, manufacturing or engineering workshopFamiliarity with surface grinders or other traditional machining equipmentWhy Join Us?Stable and long-standing employer with excellent reputation * Opportunity to make the machine area your ownOngoing investment in training and skills developmentSupportive, down-to-earth team cultureOpportunity to work on varied and interesting projectsPlease apply online and we will be in touch.
