
Day Manager (Transport Cleaning)

- Lead, support and motivate a team of around 50 operatives and 3 supervisors.
- Oversee all daily operations including mobile cleaning team, deep clean teams & facilities teams.
- Conduct regular team briefings to ensure performance and morale are maintained at a high standard.
- Monitor staff attendance and manage sickness and absences, including return-to-work interviews, welfare checks and associated documentation.
- Plan and authorise staff holidays to ensure appropriate coverage at all times.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels by forecasting requirements and responding to operational needs.
- Lead recruitment, selection, and interviewing of new cleaning operatives.
- Assist with onboarding, inductions, and training of new team members.
- Support with HR-related cases including investigations, disciplinaries and performance management.
- Promote a positive work culture with a focus on fairness, respect, and employee wellbeing.
- Work with supervisors to ensure all cleaning tasks are delivered to agreed standards and within timeframes.
- Oversee the replenishment and distribution of cleaning stock and supplies, including placing orders and managing usage.
- Monitor and enforce health & safety compliance across all teams on Days.
- Conduct audits & quality inspections and report back to the Account Manager.
- Liaise with the client daily and attend client review meetings on a periodic basis.
- Liaise with the night manager to create a strong link between the day and night teams.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role, ideally within cleaning, facilities, or transport environments.
- Strong people management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams.
- Experience with HR processes including absence management, disciplinary procedures, and recruitment.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to resolve challenges.
- Experience with stock ordering, inventory tracking, and supply chain basics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using workforce management systems.
- The successful candidate must have a full UK drivers licence.
- IOSH Managing Safely or similar health & safety qualification.
- Basic understanding of HR best practices.
- First Aid or emergency response training.
