We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Advanced Practitioner to join a Fostering Team based in Southend-on-Sea. This role involves supporting foster carers, working with children in care, and playing a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality fostering services. The Advanced Practitioner will lead on complex cases, mentor less experienced staff, and contribute to service improvement initiatives.Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver an efficient and cost-effective assessment, intervention, and therapeutic service for young people and their families, ensuring that the needs of children and their parents/carers are professionally evaluated.
- Collect, investigate, evaluate, and analyse all relevant information on assigned cases, producing clear assessments, reliable data, evidence-based conclusions, and realistic action plans.
- Adopt a holistic approach to practice, considering the individual within their immediate and extended social networks, while taking full account of their educational, social, recreational, and health needs.
- Ensure all case management adheres to statutory requirements and complies with the council's policies and procedures.
- Complete investigations, enquiries, and assessments to a high professional standard, ensuring each case has up-to-date care plans, thorough documentation, evidence of good practice, and well-maintained records.
- Identify opportunities for service improvements and contribute to a culture of continuous development.
- Prepare and submit written reports as required, including statements and care plans for proceedings in family, county, and high courts.
- Recommend needs-led assessments and interventions in line with established criteria and policy guidelines.

- A recognised qualification in Social Work (e.g., BA/MA Social Work, Diploma in Social Work, or equivalent).
- Registration with Social Work England (SWE) as a qualified social worker.
- Proven experience in fostering services or children’s social work, with a strong understanding of the fostering process, regulations, and the needs of looked-after children.
- Substantial experience in fostering, adoption, or children’s social care, including complex case management.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring social work staff is highly desirable.
- In-depth understanding of fostering regulations, the Children Act 1989, and other relevant legislation.
- Familiarity with the needs of looked-after children and the challenges faced by foster carers.
