- Design of safer battery packs.
- Quantification of hot gases and flames emanating from ruptured battery cells
- Quantification of heat generation and fire propagation in varying realistic operating conditions for battery packs.
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering or in an area related to Fire Safety Engineering*
- Good knowledge and research experiences in modelling lithium-ion battery fires especially for NMC/LFP/LCO cathode types.
- Publications in battery fire safety or closely related area in peer-reviewed journals.
- Proficiency in a Multiphysics software (COMSOL or related) and fire dynamics simulation software (FDS or similar)
- Knowledge of lithium-ion battery thermal processes
- Proficiency in Chemical Kinetics software (Cantera or similar)
- Experience in thermal runaway modelling or experiments
- Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6
