Salary: £48,710 per annumSeeking an experienced Social Worker to worh within the Adults Mental Health Team based in Swindon. You will uphold the highest standards of practice as defined by Social Work England and the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) at the Experienced Social Worker level.You will demonstrate expert and effective practice in complex situations, assessing and managing higher levels of risk, and striking a balance between support and control. Working collaboratively with a wide range of professionals, you will manage complex caseloads, offer expert opinions, and contribute to capacity-building within the organisation and the community.Key Accountabilities:
  • Complex Assessments & PlanningUndertake person-centred, complex assessments, including those related to mental capacity, to identify individuals' needs and desired outcomes.
  • Develop and implement detailed support plans to enable individuals to live as independently as possible.
  • Provide support to carers, particularly in complex situations, to help them sustain their roles effectively.
  • Regularly monitor and review plans, ensuring they remain responsive to individuals’ changing circumstances.
  • Apply advanced skills in risk assessment, ensuring individuals and carers are supported to manage risks appropriately.
  • Identify adults at risk and act in accordance with safeguarding policies and procedures, including leading Section 42 (Care Act) enquiries.
  • Convene and chair multi-agency safeguarding meetings, gathering and analysing complex information to develop Adult Protection Plans.
  • Provide one-to-one supervision for junior team members, offering guidance and feedback to enhance their professional practice.
  • Serve as a formal assessor for newly qualified social workers completing the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).
  • Undertake Practice Education Professional Standards (PEPS) training and supervise student social workers on placement
  • Work collaboratively with health services, police, and other partners to ensure effective communication and coordinated decision-making.
  • Represent the council in multi-disciplinary meetings, ensuring individuals' needs are advocated for and addressed holistically.
Requirements of the Social Worker:
  • Degree or equivalent within Social Work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Previous UK Social Work experience working within Adult Services
  • Significant post-qualification experience in adult mental health or related services.
  • Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and undertake advanced risk assessments.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring less experienced social workers or students.
  • Comprehensive understanding of adult mental health legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with individuals, families, and multi-agency professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage high-risk situations.
