Property Development.Job Purpose:We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Cashier to support our busy Real
Estate team. This role is integral to ensuring the smooth financial operation of the
department, with a focus on managing client accounts, resolving invoice queries, and
supporting fee earners with financial processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in
a legal or professional services environment and a strong understanding of billing and
disbursement procedures.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:This is not an exhaustive list and from time to time it may be necessary to vary these to meet
the department and business needs.
  • Invoice Management:
o Prepare and issue client invoices in accordance with agreed billing schedules and
client requirements.
o Process and issue credit notes where necessary.
o Liaise with fee earners to ensure accurate time recording and billing narratives.
  • Query Resolution:
o Investigate and resolve invoice and billing queries promptly and professionally.
o Act as a point of contact between the Real Estate team and the Finance
department.
  • Disbursement and Client Account Management:
o Monitor and manage disbursement balances, ensuring timely allocation and
recovery.
o Support fee earners with the management of client balances, including
reconciliations and reporting.
o Assist with the processing of payments and transfers from client accounts in line
with SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Reporting and Administration:
o Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
o Provide regular updates and reports to fee earners and team leaders on billing
and client account status.
o Support month-end and year-end financial processes as required.
Person SpecificationEssential requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working in a similar finance or accounts role,
ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Minimum of three A-C grades at A Level (or equivalent);
  • Excellent knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules;
  • Strong understanding of legal billing processes and client account management.
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with legal finance systems
(e.g., Elite, Aderant, Partner 4 Windows, or similar) is advantageous;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with
colleagues and clients;
  • Good time management with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise
workload in a fast-paced environment;
  • A flexible approach to ensure all deadlines are met;
  • Ability to work without supervision, engage with the work you are undertaking and
show initiative in your work;
  • You will be a polished and professional individual who is confident in dealing with
partners and other members of the senior management team and external advisors;
  • Desire to excel within an Accounts environment;
  • Enthusiasm to contribute ideas in order to improve the cashiering function and the
overall Accounts function.Desirable requirements
  • AAT or higher;
  • Managed relationships with banks and assisted COFA with their responsibilities;
  • Knowledge of Partner 4 Windows.
